Herald gets it wrong on race
The Herald makes out that Louisa Wall misses out on a higher placing on Labour's list because of its desire "to ensure different ethnicities are well represented in Parliament." The strange part is ... she's Maori, and therefore would be expected to benefit from any racial "quota" system. Helen Clark doesn't use the word "quota", but is quoted as saying ""on average, in every sixth or seventh or eight place or so there will be a Maori candidate ranked".
So, there's no way Ms Wall is the victim of any system which prefers ethnicities other than her own. She is no Kevin Pietersen. It seems probable that she's just about the 43rd best candidate that Labour has.
The Herald also neglects to mention she's moved up 3 places since last time, and thus fared better than plenty of sitting Labour MPs.

Where Do You Live?
I live in "Police Checkville".
Low and behold yet another one tonight.
I should start documenting them. I would say that in the last 12 months or a touch less I have actually had my rego and warrant checked 6 times and have either been waved through or passed through because they are too busy with other cars on another 3-4 occasions in the exact same spot.
When does this become persecution?
Sure they may be catching a disproportionate number of people in our area, but if Pacific Islanders were more likely to be carrying weapons does that mean you can stop everyone of them and them only to carry out a body search? If German backpackers were more likely to be carrying weed does that mean you invade their hostel dorms and tear only their belongings apart (twice a month)? If NZ Europeans were twice as likely to commit white collar crime would we expect that they had their bank accounts inspected several times a year whilst ignoring everybody else?
If we don't accept the targeting of racial groups (although Peter Brown has no issue with it) then why should we accept the targetting of communities because they have a couple of dozen different cultures in them?

That's what Peter Brown said after being asked what he thought of the statistics showing that the NZ Asian population will rise to 800,000 by 2026 according to fucking moron Peter Brown.
He went on to say that (this on Prime News and then repeated later on the main news plus Campbell Live) that they come here with no gaurantees that they will integrate into our society and they create pockets of their own culture.
Prime didn't help things by showing some Asian students standing on Queen Street smoking and several playing games in a video arcade.
God knows other NZers don't stand outside smoking, and most of us have never played in a spacie arcade in our lives.
What a total and utter cock Brown is. On the one hand he makes me want to do very bad things to him but I guess I should just look on the bright side and be thankful that I'm not him. Oh how miserable would that be.

All cultures find comfort in their own communities. When in Korea although we only made up less than one percent of the population. Actually way, way less than one percent we still had a bar which was known as the foreigners hangout. There is even an area called Itaewon in Seoul where foreigners shop almost exclusively (often for prostitutes on the discreetly named "Hooker Hill"). It's located near the Yongsan military base in the guts of Seoul.
We even have our own foreigners football league featuring 16 teams.
I'd be interested to know what sort of ties the Asian community has with their countries of origins by 2026. No doubt there will be plenty there but by then many would have been born and raised in NZ. Those that are in my classes at school fully mix with their non Asian classmates.

Racism in NZ? Surely Not
I found this link in a PA thread to racism in Christchurch.
Being married to a Korean I would obviously be in a decent position to know if there was a hell of a lot of racism towards say Koreans in Auckland and to be honest it's never come up in the 3 years we have been living in Auckland. The only time she had any obvious racist crap directed towards her (actually it was towards me when I was with her) was when we were on holiday in the South Island, Invercargill to be exact about 4 summers ago. Since the n there's been nada. I can only assume that if she had been the victim of any racist crap when I wasn't around she would have let me know but again, nothing.
I'ts fairly obvious what the two main triggers of racism are. the first is ignorance, which generally happens when people simply don't know anything about another race or interact with any members of another race. The second trigger is when one race is perceived to be benefiting over another or to blame for another races woes.
I think the first trigger is to blame for any of the dorkish behaviour down south and in some of our other mono-cultural centres. The second trigger is far more likely to come about somewhere like Auckland.
Out on the streets in Auckland I see so many Asians, Maori, Pacific Islanders etc that you don't even register it and judging by every other white face reaction it's much the same with them. I also think that people are a bit more careful about who they vent their dodgy views to as well because they can't be sure the person they talk to isn't married to one of them, dating one of them, friends with one, or some of them, or tolerant of them. And over a period of time this breeds a lot of bigotry out of people because they just never get a chance to spout crap and then low and behold they actually meet a Chinese bloke who is strangely normal, or find a Maori guy down at the squash club who becomes their new best buddy.
But unfortunately it'll be a long fucken time before certain parts of NZ start to move that way.
But fuck them, they can wallow in economic, intellectual and moral stagnation.

Crude racial steretypes, part 74
It's official, "the Chinese as a race are exceptional savers". We have it on good authority from Hamilton District Court Judge Wiltens. First name Dickhead, I suspect.
What is potentially quite an interesting story, both from a human interest perspective ("Jing and her husband had both worked in New Zealand during their seven and five years respectively in the country, had paid taxes and 'contributed just as much as anyone else'"), and a health care payments perspective ("She had given birth to a son in September. When she was asked to submit her passport to confirm her entitlement to free health care she falsified her travel document to make it appear that she had residency"), is turned into an incoherent ramble by the Herald.
But the main point of interest from my perspective is the judge's deranged stereotyping.
The enlightened judiciary of this country might also like to reflect on some other stereotypes about the Chinese 'race' that undercut the 'savings' reputation: they are exceptionally enthusiastic gamblers (so there goes the savings thing); they are bad drivers (so their high insurance premiums further eat away at their savings); they undercut the white man in the labour force (so their incomes are low); and they like to live in suburban McMansions (so their housing costs are high).
Honestly, what a load of crap. I sentence District Court Judge Dickhead Q. Wiltens to 200 hours of sensitivity training at the local polytechnic and 50 hours of multicultural awareness courses at Waikato University.

The Anti-Social Bastards in Our Midst
I steal the title of this blog post from George Monbiot, who used it for an article in which he claimed that "the car is turning us into a nation of libertarians." What he meant, more precisely, was that when one drives, "society becomes an obstacle", and that "the more you drive, the more bloody-minded and individualistic you become." Whether or not it is fair to connect drivers' alleged bloody-mindedness and reckless disregard for others to political libertarianism is an interesting question, is beside the point for my purposes today. But interestingly in his latest column he discusses a particularly outspoken libertarian business leader who has recently been suckling hard on the public tit.
What are my purposes, then? I'm fucking sick to death of the small-minded morons who go out of their way to destroy bus shelters in and around Auckland. Every Monday there's fresh carnage, with broken glass, smashed perspex, and even wooden seats that have been partially set on fire. And every Monday hundreds of public transport users find that "their" stop no longer provides shelter from the incessant fucking wind and rain in Auckland, and probably won't do for another three weeks until it is fixed. Of course, in the prevailing climate of anti-social little fuckwits, the "fix" will only be temporary, as the bastards will be back to ruin it for everyone in a few weekend's time.
Being forced to standing in the wind and rain, amid the ruins of a former bus shelter, does little to encourage public transport use, to put it mildly. If I could afford my own car, even a blue-smoker, I would probably buy one and drive it to and from the city every freakin' day. As it is Mrs_Red takes our one car to and from her work (as there is no public transport option for her).
Meanwhile, in other news (as they say) ... Winston Peters is a fuckwit. Why aren't all those Auckland Asians going out and forging business links with their home country, he asks? Yeah right. Just like I do with Ireland, and Yamis does with Scotland, and Winston himself does with Taiwan, or Italy, or wherever the fuck he comes from?

Racism?
Harawira accuses taser cop of racism
The question of whether Maori and Pacific people have a greater propensity to commit violent crime than other ethnic groups is, in the first instance, a question of fact. If there is a statistically significant greater likelihood of Maori and Pacific Islanders committing violent crime, then it is not racist to point this out. I guess one would need to bear in mind that the ethnicity of the offender is not always known, especially if they aren't actually caught. And that arguably Police might focus on catching people of some ethnicities rather than others. But this said, either Maori and Pacific people ("men" presumably) commit more violent crimes per capita than other ethnic groups, or they don't.
Going on to explain any observable differences in terms of 'innate racial qualities' ("warrior genes" and so on), might be racist ... but pointing out the difference in the first instance sure ain't.
Here's some figures:
Number of cases involving resulting in conviction for violent offences in 2003:
NZ European offenders 3652 (about 89% were men - is it also sexist to point this out?)
Maori offenders 4501
Pacific offenders 1246
Other 296
(for all convictions, 48% of "Other" are "Asian", and 29% "Indian")
So, Maori made up 46.4% of those convicted of violent crimes, compared with 15% of the total population. That's a three-fold over-representation. Even allowing for hypothetical cases of heavier policing of Maori communities, and Maori being less likely on average to be able to afford good defence lawyers, and even some discrimination against Maori in the court system, etc,. I conclude they have a higher propensity to commit violent crime than NZ Europeans and others.
Pacific people made up about 12.8% of the offenders, compared with 7% of the total population. A notable, but far less dramatic, over-representation.
A top cop has been accused of saying that Maori and Pacific Island people get tasered more then others because they have a propensity to commit violent crime.
Maori Party MP Hone Harawira told Parliament that the operational support manager of the Taser gun trial, Superintendent John Rivers, had made the comments at a meeting with the Maori Party.
Mr Harawira told MPs Mr Rivers had said Maori and Pacific Island people were more than half of the subjects of Taser use simply because: "Maori and Pacific people have a greater propensity to commit violent crimes."

Fucking bumpkins
Two 14 year olds rob a house of a cache of guns, including a .303 hunting rifle, then take off on a horse, before switching (very sensibly) to a Ford Falcon XR6 "sports saloon." (Who the fuck knew anyone still called them "sports saloons"?). Locals are reported to be "angered" because "these things happen only in Auckland".
Yeah, too fucking right ... every house is practically overflowing with hunting rifles up here in the big smoke. These massive urban arsenals practically beg your average 14 year old to break in and take off on the nearest horse. I can hardly sleep some nights for the noise of gunshots further down the ghetto.
For fuck's sake, why does the media report this rubbish? I sleep fine except for the boy-racers on Friday night (hardly unique to Auckland, eh?) and the local kids discovering a cache of ... fireworks ... once in a while. As for guns ... never owned one, never fired one, lived in Auckland 25 odd years. I'd be next to useless in the forthcoming Zombie apocalypse.

The other week another bumpkin told me they didn't want all the beaches in the area developed "like what's happened up in Auckland." So, that would explain why, within a 25 minute drive of my house, I can be walking along Bethells Beach, feeling like it's the end of the earth, with not another person (let alone a house) to be seen?
Back to our 14 year old armed offenders ... PC Plod has already made the link to "American-style video game[s]." Fuck, I knew the Americans were responsible for this somehow! Of course, if there was a GTA: Sydney or GTA: Saigon developed by non-American programmers no one would play it. (Disclaimer: such games may already exist, for all I know). Why stop with video games though? Surely Bonnie and Clyde are the original "American bad examples for youth" (TM)?
You can guess who the bumpkins blame for coastal development too ... Americans.

Brown New Zealand Policy
Tariana Turia, appearing to announce Maori Party immigration policy, is calling for fewer migrants from "traditional source countries" such as Great Britain, Europe, Canada, and Australia. Accepting immigrants from these places, she suggests, "may be" the Government's way of combatting the "browning" of New Zealand.
She includes "Asians" (undefined) in this "browning" - clearly adopting a new colour scheme to move away from the "yellow peril" type categorizations.
But, Mrs Turia seeks to reassure us, "we aren't playing the race card, because we are not talking about Asian immigration." Right, so it's not racist to try and shut the door to white folks, only yellow ones? Sorry, brown ones.

First, one might note that countries such as the UK, Australia and Canada (not to mention the entire continent of Europe) are relatively diverse and include people of various backgrounds. If an Aboriginal Australian or Canadian moves here, for example, that surely contributes to the much-heralded "browning"?

Actually, the latter are a little harder to find than one might expect, but I finally tracked down this comprehensive document.
It reveals that there were 51,236 applications for permanent residency accepted in 2005/06. There are bugger all Australians, precisely because they don't need to apply, and can simply move here.
But let's look at the largest source countries of official permanent residents shall we?

It is probably safe to assume, based purely on anecdotal evidence/common knowledge, that most although not all of the applicants from the UK, South Africa and the USA are "white".

I wonder how brown one has to be to meet the Turia test? Would a black person immigrating from the Netherlands (641 successful applicants in 05/06) be more welcome in her books than a white person of the same origin?
Does she think that for some reason the former is more likely to emphathize with her "brown" bretheren? And is that a sound foundation on which to build immigration policy?
I am almost at a loss for words in describing this racist outburst. The word "fuck" does come to mind quite a lot though.
She includes "Asians" (undefined) in this "browning" - clearly adopting a new colour scheme to move away from the "yellow peril" type categorizations.
But, Mrs Turia seeks to reassure us, "we aren't playing the race card, because we are not talking about Asian immigration." Right, so it's not racist to try and shut the door to white folks, only yellow ones? Sorry, brown ones.

If an Aboriginal Australian or Canadian moves here, for example, that surely contributes to the much-heralded "browning"?

It reveals that there were 51,236 applications for permanent residency accepted in 2005/06. There are bugger all Australians, precisely because they don't need to apply, and can simply move here.
