When you get right down to it, there are few differences between the architecture of the Republican and Democratic parties. Democratic congresses and Whitehouses kill just about as many people as when Republicans rule, only the dems do it a bit more clandestine.
But the new emerging difference between the Republicans and the Democrats is that G.O.P. likes to have a bumbling fuck-up for a president and have the real hawks burried into lesser positions.
Dems still think that an ideologically good chief can save the day.
If this approach truly worked, I think that Al Gore would have seen the potentila in running again.
