Candle-lit dinners from now on

Further to my outpouring of budgetary anguish yesterday, comes the joyous news that electricity prices are to be hiked yet again. Gives a new meaning to "would the last person out of New Zealand please turn out the lights", a line repeated ad nauseum by those who bewail the supposed departure of NZers to Australia and other greener pastures.

Ms_Red and I will be doing our bit to create a North Korean style night-time landscape by simply switching off everything that uses electricity. Candle-light dinners! Sitting round the warm glow of the fireplace! Heating kettles above the fireplace before bathing! Getting someone to deliver big blocks of ice in lieu of a fridge! Counting flowers on the wall! It will be so romantic.

Comments:
Let's see in Australia how much it costs for electricity for 2 people. My scientific experiment involves only me and the missus. $135 a month in winter. $100-110 a month in the summer.

btw, where the f*ck is the cricket coverage? Where the f*ck is the outrage at Bracewell the biggest f*ckin tosser since well, since ever. Duncan "pick Giles and another bunch of f*ckin useless no hoper bowlers who are in the side so they can have a long tail" Fletcher is a close second.

Dinkas - f*ck man, my ability to comment meaningfully on the cricket is constrained by my inability to afford SKY! Plus Yamis seems to have disappeared.

But I'll be tuning in to Radio Sport today, so maybe I'll be able to offer an informed view on those chronic under-achievers known as the f*cking black caps. :) In between listening to the infernal ads and meaningless, often rugby-related blather of the Radio Sport hosts, that is.

Dinkas - meant to ask, for $100-$135/mo are you running a heating system (in winter) and AC (in summer)?

DC: No AC in summer. After spending time in Asia I am used to the hot weather so stick to fans.

In winter, just an oil column heater in the bedroom and a radiant heater in the Dining Room. Good ole Kiwi knitted jerseys and long johns is the only real solution.

F*cked (I added the * because who knows what filters there out there) if I know what the electricity goes on. The computer running 24/7 d/ling torrents? We use a dryer as balcony is non-existent and with the oven

Our dryer (necessary because of the tendency for there to be a bit of precipitation in Auckland from time to time) just blew up, thus saving us yet more money on the electricity bill! :(

But as you can probably tell from my posts, I have no idea where the f*cking electrons we supposedly use are going either. I mean ... in a 2-adult household, where you're both out 11 hours a day during the week, it should be next to nothing you'd think! Right?
